T G Reghu was a true visionary. A leader who pioneered a whole industry. It was the year 1986 when T G Reghu took things in his hands and gave the Kerala houseboat industry the shape in which it is today. He was a man who belonged to the backwaters. It was a place so heavenly that was known far and wide and tourists flocked to this place every season. However, there was no tourism industry as such and there were no houseboats for tourists. Also, there were lots of operational problems which marred the industry because of it's not recognized status. It was Reghu, who along with some of other youth from the backwaters started a co-operative society to promote tourism and connect the picturesque villages to the tourists through the houseboats. Though initially, he faced some challenges, eventually his houseboats became hugely popular which brought in more boats and thus started the houseboat tourism in the backwaters of Kerala.
With time and with experience the co-operative has perfectly learned what the traveler needs and wants are. One gets to sail in an exotic houseboat with their personal captain, cook, and motorman. One witnesses scenes such as a Brahminy kite catching fish or a stork-billed kingfisher eating its catch while sitting on a coconut leaf or flocks of feral rock pigeons flying over your head while you cruise through the blue waters of a canal of the backwaters with rows of coconut trees on both banks, all the while sunbathing on the deck of your houseboat. The houseboat takes you through the villages connected by the innumerable canals of the backwaters. One should not get surprised if he is invited by the local people to their homes and has the backwater special fish cuisine with their family.
Come, witness the God’s own country and connect to its villages.
